Interview with Amirul - guitar/bass

You began as a death metal cover band, how would you define your music style now? What do you think is the difference between death metal and grind core?

The old line up usually jam or rehearse with old death metal tunes.Only some stayed and decided to form a band.DEMISOR music now are more into grindcore with maybe a twist of extreme elements throw in to make it more original...Both death metal and grindcore are not really different coz both have heavy sounding riff,fast drums,evil growl....Probably what make it different are the content of the lyrics or the "grinding parts or feeling" in it.Basically both are part of each other...

You date your begin in early 1987, but from the first line-up none has stayed in the band till now. To be honest, was that completely another band back then?

The band is still DEMISOR in the early days apart from the line up which are usually a problem in those days...the name has existed way back then but only few people that really wanted to make the band a reality.Thus it was a long period of waiting and jammin and slackin but at last in the late 89-90' the 1st reh/demo was produced.Because of the bad quality of the sound the band decided it should be a reh/demo rather than a demo.

Both you (Amirul) and Fahmy are now the main-part of DEMISOR, you both first appeared in the 90's and 92's line up. So who started up the band really?

Well the band like I said has its up and down....after the 1st reh/demo in 90' again the band slacken.Due to commitment and shit...The remaining member Iskandar(Botak)-Vocals and Khairul(Dol)-drums continue the band.This is where I come in as a bassist.Again the band slacken and after a major change the band emerge again and record in 92' for the 2nd reh/demo.We continue using the DEMISOR monicker and only Iskandar(Botak) was the original member with us.Later Azizi(Bob) one of the original member join us and quit last few years back....

Tell us more about the Singapore extreme metal szene, when did it get started up with the underground? Who were the most important bands back then?

To me the important bands are like Nuctemeron,Abhorer(Godz!!),Profancer,Stomping Ground,Opposition Party plus lots more......Its started in the 80' with kids crazy into thrash metal and death metal shit...things are hard to get in those days but the feeling of underground really existed...that was the good old days...nothin can replaced that...

Many friends told me that the scene in Malysia is even bigger then yours, right? Do you often play there? How is the relationchip between both scene?

Yes Malaysian are much bigger and better in terms of gigs and bands from what I see....there are much unity in them...DEMISOR always enjoy playing in Malaysia.Really good crowd and great support...Both scene are pretty much in good terms...

How was your experience with NAPALM DEATH, when you play as support band three years ago? Did you got the chance to speak with them? How do they find you music?

NAPALM DEATH fuckin rules!!! Its a big event for us to play with them....just imagine in my younger days I used to listen to them and idolize their crazy fast  music and to play with them which I cant even dream of have become true...Really satisfying!!!Even though none original member are in the band but just look at the line up....Fuckin grind masters bandmates!!!Music wise are still grinding as ever....Enough said!!!!!

You are also a good friend to IMPETIGOs Guitar Mark who is living in your Country now. How did you get known to him and how do you like their music?

Mark is a cool friend with us...We both like each other music so its likely we became friends...But I known him since the old days...IMPETIGO and his zine UNIFORCE and both fuckin great!!IMPETIGO are basically straight to your face horror grind with a cool attitude bandmates...which are hard to find this days...

Listen to your music I can find a lot common feelings compareable to old IMPETIGO stuffs. Who are your most important influences? What is your motivation to do this kind of brutal music in general?

To be compare to IMPETIGO is such a big thing...IMPETIGO is a cult band unlike DEMISOR which is just a happy fun loving grind band....hahahaha.....anyway we have lots of influences like your everyday basic grind bands....Napalm death,Terrorizer,Brutal truth,Extreme Noise terror,Assuck,Phobia,Nasum etc etc etc....Our motivation are the people or fans that are really dig or love the DEMISOR music...also few good old grind friends all over the world that we still in touch with...this people are what we are motivated by....Cheers!!!

Tell more about Grin-konrr Rocords, what kind of label is this? You are responsible for the Singapore office, right?

The label are mostly into grindcore,fast shit...but we try to focus on asian scene....we want to help asian bands to get their stuff released....but as you can see we kinda slow coz we have busy schedule...we do this in the spare time...but do get in touch with us for trade or stuff.....

What are your lyrics all about? And since you can't understand the text from the vocs of a grind band how important are the lycris for you?

Most of our lyrics now deal with the reality and hardship of true event living in our country,stress,manipulation,discrimination,hatred etc etc...the lyrics are important for us as to convey our message through the people and also the music should be original and good as well in order to get people attention....

You have done uncountable numbers of splitt releases with other underground bands from all over the world. What is the whol splitt release thing all about?

Well just a normal grind band sharing a release together...both band adore grind and we do some split release...its normal for grind band doing tons of splits I think???

Do you know all the bands personelly with whom you are sharing all these splitt-cds with?

Yes certainly we have been contact and trade stuff through the years and doing the splits just happen....

Your new album will be out soon over an Japanese Label. This is even your first official longplayer. Why did you wait so long for an album? Was it difficault for you to release an album or weren't you simply interested?

Probably none are interested in DEMISOR???I think we just don't think or plan to do like full length or live tour...its just happen for us....any opportunity that comes we always grab it....some time none at all....the new album is a discography of all DEMISOR sonx over the years...should be a cool release!!Our 1st official is not yet comfirm due to our busy schedule... maybe thats why we prefer split 7"ep release than a full length...

The new album will possibly be released by Mort Productions in Chinese Area, soon. Where else will the album be published and what kind of result do you hope to receive from this release?

Yes Mort Productions are kinda enough to offer us a good deal.They offer us a full length CD but we cant do it due to time and commtiment.We settle for a 3 way CD with 2 more chinese brutal deathgrind band!!! We just hope that people in this case people in China will except our music..thats all...

Now you will also have a 3way splitt CD with two Chinese brutal bands (REGICIDE and OPERATION TABLE). Tell us more about the material you will put on this splitt. Have you hear the demos of the other or any chn. bands yet?

I have heard few Chinese band from comp.CD and CD..cool bands like HADES,PURGATORY plus few more... Both REGICIDE and OPERATION TABLE are way more brutal than us!!!DEMISOR will feature few new sonx for this release!!!All fast brutal grind sonx!!!Everyone should buy this release!!!AWESOME!!!!!!

There are a lot of Chinese people living in Singapore, so Chinese culture is nothing new for you. Do all different peoples live more separated? Do you have much contact to local Chinese People? Do they also play this kind of music?

People here are much in harmony unlike other places...we can like together and we learn each other cultures in our school.We respect each other.I have few good chinese friends and bands friends...Some also play in death metal,thrash metal and hardcore....

DEMISOR BIO 1987'-2002'

The band took off in the early 87' with members playing death metal covers and doing some original songs. With Azizi-guitar, Yazid-guitar, Dol-bass and Maiden-drums. This line up did few jamming but no releases as some members quit and join other death metal acts. Then the bands took off again with another line up with Dol switching to drums and Botak of Living Corpse zine' editor as vocals. They add Zul in bass and did a reh/demo "Mastectomy" in the early 90'.Although the sound turn out bad they received good response from the underground listeners. After that reh/demo the bands have problems again and left with only Botak and Dol to continue. They recruited Amirul on bass and started the band again. With some original songs done they wanted to record a demo but again the band slacken again. They soon called Jali to play drums and Dol is switch to guitar. Again the band slackens and then they kick out Dol and recruited more members to play with Harman as vocals and Apang as bass. They got John as another vocals but then change again to Fahmy as vocals. With this line up they record another reh/demo "Oral Climax" in early 92'. The line up is Botak-guitar, Amirul-guitar, Apang-bass, Harman-vocals, Fahmy-vocals and Jali-drums. With this line-up they play their first gig at Malaysia, Perak in 93' with all great Malaysian death metal acts like Brain Dead, Tormentor etc. Soon after that again a change in the line up with Azizi playing back in bass replacing Apang.With this line up they did a split EP tape with Malaysian death metal godz Necrotic Chaos. Again a change in the line up with Azizi switching to guitars as Botak decided to quit. So with Fahmy-vocals, Harman-vocals, Amirul-guitars, Azizi-guitars/bass and Jali-drums they did few releases and lots of live in Singapore and Malaysia. Then Harman quits but the band moves on with the remaining members. The band play twice in Indonesia, Jakarta and Bandung 1997 with band like Grausig, Grind Buto, Death Vomit etc.Then Azizi has problem with immigrations and the bands go on with 3 members. With this line up they did a few split 7"ep, a few gigs in Malaysia and a Japan gig 1999 with bands like GxBxN, DxIxE, 324, Corrupted, Unholy Grave, Fuck On The Beach etc. After a few years the bands started to have problems and soon it's was halt for a while. Fahmy is down with sickness. Amirul is tied up with busy schdule,work and studies. Then Jali played in another band and has no commitment and interest to the members & band.For few months later Amirul meet up Azizi and decided to reform. Fahmy was called up and Zainal played drums. With this line up again they opened up for Napalm Death live at Malaysia. Then Azizi decided to quit again and started a band in Malaysia and Demisor still goes on with remaining 3 members. With this line up they did a split CD with Japanese grindcore band Carcass Grinder. So as of today after all that hassle Demisor will prevails as 3 members that is Fahmy - All Vocals Amirul - Guitars/Bass Zainal - Drums..…...to be continue.......
